November Gardening Tips. (Part - 1) Gardening the easy way

As we move into the winter season, in the northern hemisphere, we can now take a breather and give some serious thought as to where we want to take this gardening thing and what our goals might be.  As I have mentioned in past discussions, I am not presenting ideas here that are just wild theories.  Each and every idea or so-called theory have been time tested and applied. They are all proven ideas and therefore not theories. I am taking some of these fantastic ideas and helping you to apply them to your gardening ideas. I have presented several different practices that will help you a great deal in producing better and higher quality gardens.  One of the greatest drawbacks to most any gardening project is that to get started it takes a lot of work and at times a lot of money. The joke out there is it ends up costing a person 5 dollars for a small tomato. A single carrot might end up costing 5 dollars as well.  Some people work so hard as they come out of the...

Cinnamon EO and the Mineral Nickel

Question;

Is it possible for essential oils, primarily cinnamon, to contain nickel?

Answer:

OK, here goes. Do you want the simple one first? Yes, it can.

    As with any plant if it is in the soil then it will likely be in the plant. Since Nickel is way under the 300 magic number of weight, then it would come over. You won't likely find the Nickel coming up in a GC/MS report. #1- they don't test for it and #2- the scan isn't sensitive to pick it up as a general rule, even if they were watching for it.

  Now the longer part;  There is a lot of research out there with respect to animal applications and very little with human applications. But some things are known, one is that the combination of the Nickel with Cinnamon tends to be absorbed in the large intestine. This is one of the very few EO's that can be utilized by oral administration effectively. Now don't go out there and drink Cinnamon EO, it doesn't quite work that way. I...

This is a Q and A concerning a product that was observed being sold by another company out there. It contained CBD oil, Essential Oils, and Extracts. There was also a screenshot of the contents of that formula

Question;
  I just saw a discussion about a new product being advertised as having certain essential oils as nutritional drivers for a CBD product. I did a quick search and couldn't find information on a nutritional driver. Would Clary Sage helping the body absorb calcium be considered a nutritional driver?

Answer;
  Let's set a foundation. A Driver, as it applies to this type of discussion is the primary functioning component. The Nutritional part is just a qualification of the type of purpose the driver is serving. So as to the above idea. CBD is the Driver and the Nutritional part is telling of its purpose and where the product is going. Everything else in there is just support staff if you will, and support for the driver. In these types of blends, they usually use a lot of extracts, in addition to the essential oils. This serves as a stabilizing effect to the whole. Plus it helps in a more broad spread effect. Overall, they have used a driving product and...

Do herbicides and pesticides survive the distillation process?

Do herbicides and pesticides survive the distillation process?
A- Yes, they do.
This is really an area that is really misunderstood. You don't necessarily "destroy" some of these chemicals by heating them. Yes, heating does cause a condition where the chemicals are no longer there. What actually happens is this, the heat causes steam, anything less than that 300 (more or less) molecular weight will be carried off by the steam and dispersed into the air. Think; your little vaporizer that you put Vicks or something like that. That is an open system  In the distillation process, you have a closed system. It doesn't "disperse" out into the air. It is held captive and cooled then the liquid is collected. This liquid contains all that comes over, in either the EO or in the distillate water. It can be in either the water or the oil. It is easier, in my opinion, to detect them in the oil than in the water. This is why we walk very carefully when it comes to the distillate waters. Most...

October Gardening Tips, Part 2, Working with Nature.

Hi Everyone;

Today we are going to discuss another part of the idea of how to improve your chances of having an even more successful garden than you have if you are a really good gardener.  If you aren't in that group then this will help you in that effort. I have several ideas that I want to present during this month and I am not sure which one should come first, so I will just do each on a separate discussion and then you can piece together which ideas will best work for you.

We always try to look for ways the make the garden work more along with nature than to buck nature and end up defeated in the end. After all, when you fight nature, it makes for one tough opponent. So I figure I need all the help I can get, so if I work with nature, it at the very least will help me, I hope. As we look to implement these ideas we need to keep in mind that it won't be until the 2021 growing season before we are fully on track. So the time from now, fall of 2019 until the...

October Gardening Tips Part 1

Today we will be looking at several aspects of what should be going on during this month in your garden in preparation for next year's bountiful harvest.

I would like to remind you of the need to not clear cut and clean your garden spot and then throw the residue into the trash. You need to preserve the residue and pile it up into your compost pile. The plant residue will provide for mulch and natural fertilizers as your plants will require this as they grow. Also, the residue when composted down will provide for a natural type of inoculation and help to boost the new ...

Quality of Oils Part 2

Mar 7 2017

MISSING PART ONE! OLD SITE CONTENT WAS THE SAME!

After I posted the last discussion on this topic, I felt like I really didn't put the finishing touches on it. So here goes;

When people first come on board with the Essential Oils, they are excited and want to share. However, the challenge they have is that most of the people they want to share with are already using oils and for the most part those friends that they want to share with are from one of the two big EO companies. Please keep in mind that I am not bashing those 2 big EO companies, just some of their practices and the actions of a few people associated with them.  Very seldom do you see behaviors from people associated from other companies like you see in this this grouping. Anyway, people ask this question; What can I say or what can I do to show them that our oils are better? I always answer the question this way, You can't!  Some of the reasons are related to what I have mentioned in...

Food- Meat- Rabbit.

As we start off the new year, I wanted to jump in and start looking at foods. In this one, we are going to be looking at Rabbit Meat. I know, I know, I understand all of the pet stuff but let's not get stuck there. We are simply looking at it in an educational way. I pulled the text of this from a website in the UK. In Europe, they do things much differently than we do here, in some areas. Having lived in the UK, I can appreciate and respect many of the things they do there that are different. I am interested in this topic because of the Omega-3 content as well as many of the other nutrients that are more available to a human-being than many other types of meat provided. I also understand that they use this food source in hospitals in some countries "down under" because of its ability to be able to be digested by people in recovery from serious health issues. To answer the questions that are circulating in some people's minds about now. Mainly this one, "Can we not eat meat...

Keep Strong and Carrot On!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Andrea Brightwell and I am one of the guest bloggers for LeiannKing.com. I'm taking over this week to talk about CARROTS! Thanks to this weeks Webinar all about gardening, I'm getting my seeds in a row, literally. And of course in my garden, carrots are a staple. So let's talk this week about carrots and the essential oil, carrot seed.

Carrots in general are so good for you. Good for your eyes and getting energy. When it comes to the essential oil, you get even more benefits. Carrot seed oil is usually used for skin care to help reduce the signs of aging (YAY!) as well as for internal organs like the kidneys, liver and pancreas, to help support them.

So what does this mean for you in your day to day life? Well, a little carrot seed oil in your face cream will help with signs of aging and will help with the appearance of wounds and scars. If looking for something to help with inflammation, a couple drops mixed with 1/4 cup of Dead Sea Salt in your bath will do...

August and the Lazy, Crazy, Days of Peppermint

It’s nearly August and … ahhhh … the lazy days of summer! An excellent essential oil for this lovely month is Peppermint.

During these lazy days it’s easy to reach for that last piece of I-shouldn’t-have-eaten-that. If your tummy feels like it’s taken one turn too many on a county fair ride, turn to Peppermint. It’s first aid for your digestive system – that upset stomach, bloating, re flux … and those things your kids are really amused by … gas and flatulence … relax, this is the month they go back to school.

I was very sore last week from a big project. Many hours at the computer added up to a tight neck, back, shoulders and a mouse injury. No, I wasn’t attacked by a wild rodent. All that mousing around at the computer with my right hand made the muscles around my elbow very painful. I put a couple of drops of Peppermint in some grape seed carrier oil, then put it on the affected areas (with a little help...
