Viruses and Essential Oils.

Nov 23, 2021

If you are reading this discussion, then it might b safe to assume that essential oils might be of interest to you. I have written a number of these blog/essays/discussions on this subject. But in this one I am focusing in on their mechanism of action against various influenza and coronaviruses. The last word is the one that most people are interesting in.

As we look at different aspects of this "Rona" deal, we are looking at the broad aspect of it. Both on the front end as well as the back end. For this discussion I am pulling from an article in Pubmed, aricle # PUBMED 33212200. Titled; An updated and comprehensive review of the antiviral potential of essential oils and their chemical constituents with special focus on their mechanism of action against various influenza and coronaviruses This is very important discussion. I will cut and paste directly for some of the material.

In this article they are looking at the anti-viral effects of essential oils. They describe the definition of just what and essential oil is. I really like how they word it. It is perhaps the best definition yet. Here is their description; By definition, essential oils are a complex mixture of volatile organic compounds which are synthesized naturally in different parts of the plant as part of plants secondary metabolism. The chemical composition of the essential oils is dominated by the presence of a range of compounds including phenolics, terpenoids, aldehydes, ketones, ethers, epoxides and many others inferring that essential oils must be effective against a wide range of pathogens.
Take away/key points of interest.
#1- The essential oils of cinnamon, bergamot, lemongrass, thyme, lavender have been reported to exert potent antiviral effects against influenza type A virus.
#2- The essential oil of Citrus reshni leaves has been shown to be effective against H5N1 virus. My note; Citrus reshni is of the Cleopatra mandarin variety. It is a very sour type of mandarin and is used extensively as a root stock for several other citrus varieties.
#3- Essential oils and oleoresins have been shown through in vitro and in vivo experiments to induce antiviral effects against Coronavirus infectious bronchitis virus. A study reported 221 phytochemical compounds and essential oils to be effective against severe acute respiratory syndrome associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV) using a cell-based assay measuring SARS-CoV-induced cytopathogenic effect on Vero E6 cells.
#4- The main mechanism of antiviral effects of essential oils has been found to cause capsid disintegration and viral expansion which prevents the virus to infect host cells by adsorption via the capsid. Essential oils also inhibit hemagglutinin (an important membrane protein of various viruses) of certain viruses; this membrane protein allows the virus to enter the host cell. Many essential oils and their components could inhibit the late stages of viral life cycle by targeting the redox signalling pathway.
#5- Essential oils of Thymus vulgaris, cymbopogon citratus and Rosmarinus officinalis have been found to destabilize the Tat/TAR-RNA complex of HIV-1 virus, this complex being essential for HIV-1 replication. Being lipophilic in nature, essential oils can penetrate viral membranes easily leading to membrane disintegration. The current comprehensive review will facilitate researchers to find chemical entities from plant sources as possible inhibitory agents against various viruses. *** The Thymus oil is Thyme Oil, The Cymbopogon is Lemon grass. The Rosemarinus is Rosemary oil.

I am going to enclose another article that is directly related to the previous one here.
Chemical Composition of Essential Oils from Thymus vulgaris, Cymbopogon citratus, and Rosmarinus officinalis, and Their Effects on the HIV-1 Tat Protein Function PMID# 29282856.
#1- In this work, we evaluated the chemical composition and possible interference of essential oil from Thymus vulgaris, Cananga odorata, Cymbopogon citratus, and Rosmarinus officinalis with the Tat/TAR-RNA interaction and with Tat-induced HIV-1 LTR transcription.
#2- Essential oils of Thymus vulgaris, Cymbopogon citratus, and Rosmarinus officinalis were active in interfering with Tat functions, encouraging further studies to identify single terpenes responsible for the antiviral activity. In view of the quite different composition of these essential oils, we concluded that their interference on Tat function depends on specific terpene or a characteristic blend. **** In this study they mention about using Cananga odorata. This is the tree from which they extract Ylang Ylang EO from, this is essentially Ylang Ylang essential oil. I do not know why they did not mention it any further. But I make this mention because it is not mentioned again in the abstract and I list the oils when mentioned with a 3/4, meaning 3 oils in one study and 4 oils in another study.

OK< now I am going to explain a little bit about the idea of why I am discussing these 2 articles. #1- is that the effectiveness of these 3/4 essential oils in dealing with specific actions. ON the #4 point in the first part, it says; Many essential oils and their components could inhibit the late stages of viral life cycle by targeting the redox signalling pathway. The key points here are late stages...targeting a specific pathway. But in earlier parts it tells just how it goes about doing it. It also does it by using essential oils.

I speed read, so I can go over many and I mean many articles during one setting. Generally I spend hours up on hours each night studying these different studies. This helps me to present material to all of you that is not just blowing smoke up your rear ends. These are studies done my really solid people doing the right things, the right way. Then I go and talk with really solid people, with high level credentials, face to face on many of these subjects. Plus I use my own experiences. So with the ideas suggested in these two studies, actually just information from the abstracts of those studies, suggesting 3/4 common essential oils with mostly a different chemical profile, yet all three being effectively in doing what the studies have suggested those to do. Mainly you will find a term, Inhibit, as being a common theme. They don't use the term to "Kill", as we don't necessarily want to kill, we just want to inhibit. Usually that means to prevent them from taking some action that allows them to replicate and live another generation. I use these articles to help plant the idea in your minds about the possible long term action potential of a certain virus out there. While one may see that there is not hope in this, I am saying that there is hope and here are some ideas on where this thing can go if we use the right tools. We do nothing then it also tells us where this thing is going to go. Here is where it concerns me. You will notice that the 3 letter acronym is used quite heavy. (Okay, Okay, the 3 letter acronym, HIV). I have run my mouth off about the basic sources of this virus, a lot of the parasites and infections related to it. All kinds of possible natural source solutions. But the one theme that I see keep popping up in all of these studies is that one 3 letter acronym. We also know what the next next 3 letter acronym is, don't we? On a personal level I am not afraid of this per say. It usually takes 10 or more years for it to show up in active/observable form. !0 years from now, I seriously doubt that I will be around in 10 years to even worry about it. I might be, but there are a zillion different issues that will get me just as fast as that one will, I am sure. But my concern is for those younger than myself. We know of the possible devastation of the 3 letter acronym. I don't think I need to paint any clearer of a picture. Here is a question for thought. Is these natural solutions, like the mentioned role of these 3 main EO's be something to akin to painting our door frames to our house with blood, you know that story from scripture???

There is another theme that runs through a lot of these studies and that is of natural solutions. It is almost like bit pharma and the synesthetic promoters have come to realize that they have screwed the pooch on this whole deal and now they are going for broke, IE; do or die. Perhaps their primeval instinct for survival has kicked in, in any case, things are changing and the whole idea of natural solution material is going to be taking over the future of the new drugs and new solutions to these diseases and such. So that is a good thing, right?
