If that cheer takes you back to high school, then you may be – or feel like – a senior! And I’m not talking about someone who will graduate in 2016. I was in pep club, not a cheerleader, though I’m often asked if I was. *
If you grunt and hobble out of bed first thing in the morning, you may be a senior … or just feel like it. If so, Marjoram, Sweet might just be the essential oil for you. Of course, this oil can help people of any age.
I’ve found that pronouncing it can be tricky. When I say it correctly, MAR-jor-rum (last syllable like rum, the drink), I often have to repeat myself because others ask, “margarine?” When I say MAR-jor-ram (incorrect – last syllable like ram, an animal), I’m corrected. I can’t win saying it but ol’ whats-its-face seems to help a lot of people.
However you say it, remember the M. Marjoram is for muscles and the things in your body connected to them – joints and bones. Marjoram can help relieve problems you may not have realized were attached to muscles: babies’ colic, children’s growing pains, tummy aches and anxiety, any ager’s respiratory problems and rheumatic pain.
Marjoram-relaxed muscles can also help decrease period pain and regulate menstrual cycles. Do you snore? Marjoram can help you. Are you sore? Marjoram can help ease soreness after sports or just general muscle soreness.
You can also think of M for mood. Marjoram is helpful in relieving depression and lifting your mood. They didn’t call it the “herb of happiness” (Romans) or “joy of the mountains” (Greeks) for nothing.
The characteristics of Marjoram are tied into its main chemical families:
Its botanical family also reveals some of Marjoram’s characteristics:
Marjoram is non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitizing; however, ladies, do not use it during the first trimester of pregnancy or gentlemen, when you have plans for your libido. Keep in mind we’re talking about Marjoram, Sweet (Origanum marjorana) – not to be confused with Spanish Marjoram or Oregano (Thymus mastichina or Origanum compactum).

*Lori is lying, but not about pep club. We did have awesome uniforms.**
**Still lying, by the way, about the awesomeness of the pep club uniforms. We were dressed a bit like Where’s Waldo, except you could spot us a mile away. You too have or will look back on previous years’ styles and think, “What were we thinking?”
